STUDENT MEDICAL NEEDS

October 24, 2007

Patricia Chandler, our school nurse, is available every day to attend to your child’s minor medical needs.  (290-4393)

A teacher or aide will refer children to the nurse.

If the nurse determines that a child is ill and needs to go home, a parent will be called.

The child will be kept at school until picked up by a parent or someone indicated by the parent.

If a child needs to take prescription medicineduring school hours, the parent must send a signed note to school with a description of the medication, the dosage and the time to be given by the nurse.

The nurse may administer aspirin or an aspiring substitute after contacting the parents by telephone.

The nurse conducts distance vision testing during the year for children in kindergarten, first and third grades, and for new students in the second and fourth grades.

If a problem is identified, parents will be notified and urged to have the child examined by a professional.

In October, all children in first, third, and fifth grades are given a hearing screening.  New children in second and fourth grades are also tested.

If your child is feeling well enough to attend school, they will be expected to participate in recess; the classroom teacher will not be able to provide supervision if the child remains inside.
