STUDENT MEDICAL NEEDS
October 24, 2007
Patricia Chandler, our school nurse, is available every day to attend to your child’s minor medical needs. (290-4393)
• A teacher or aide will refer children to the nurse.
• If the nurse determines that a child is ill and needs to go home, a parent will be called.
• The child will be kept at school until picked up by a parent or someone indicated by the parent.
• If a child needs to take prescription medicineduring school hours, the parent must send a signed note to school with a description of the medication, the dosage and the time to be given by the nurse.
• The nurse may administer aspirin or an aspiring substitute after contacting the parents by telephone.
• The nurse conducts distance vision testing during the year for children in kindergarten, first and third grades, and for new students in the second and fourth grades.
• If a problem is identified, parents will be notified and urged to have the child examined by a professional.
• In October, all children in first, third, and fifth grades are given a hearing screening. New children in second and fourth grades are also tested.
• If your child is feeling well enough to attend school, they will be expected to participate in recess; the classroom teacher will not be able to provide supervision if the child remains inside.
