Beowulf to the MAX
by Dan Holden
November 29, 2007
Students could be seen dodging arrows and sword blades as they leapt off the screen at Ronnie's IMAX theater. As part of their Mythology class students went on a field trip to see Beowulf in IMAX 3-D.
Though many of the students thought that 300 was a better movie, reviews were generally favorable. Director Robert Zemeckis used the same motion capture process that he pioneered in Polar Express and the new 3-D process is far superior to the old blue and red cardboard glasses variety.
The cast included many award winning actors. Anthony Hopkins plays King Hrothgar, and Angelina Jolie voices the demon with which Beowulf makes his bargain for fame and glory.
One of the highlights of the trip was the discovery that the concessions stand was open contrary to predictions by Mr. Holden.
Students enjoyed the movie and could be heard asking when we would be going on our next field trip.
