School Nurse Receives Prestigious Award
May 27, 2008
Parents from Delmar-Harvard Elementary School nominated Patricia Chandler, RN MSN WHNP, B-C to receive the prestigious National Diabetes Association: Partners in Care Award. This award acknowledges exceptional diabetes care by school personnel. Patricia was selected from many state-wide candidates and will receive this honor on Friday, May 23rd, 6:00 pm at the Delmar-Harvard Family Fun Fest gathering.
Patricia has served as a school nurse for two years at Delmar-Harvard. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from Webster University, and her practitioner degree specializing in Women’s Health from Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. She is a part-time women’s health nurse practitioner for People’s Health Center. Her well-rounded knowledge of health education has been an asset to school nursing, and her advanced degree in women’s health has proven to be a valuable resource for district growth and development classes.
Ms. Chandler has developed an effective school health program that includes health promotion, education and wellness for all students and staff. Using the Safe At School Program developed by the National Diabetes Assoc, Patricia developed a successful diabetic program which involves the student, family, health care provider, teacher, and any other staff involved in the education and well-being of the student. With the help of local diabetes educators, the Safe At School Program works to ensure that both school personnel and the child’s classmates understand diabetes and its management in the school setting.
The School District of University City congratulates Patricia Chandler on receiving this award and is proud to recognize her as a valuable member of our district health team.
