Ms. Callahan, a teacher at the Lieberman Learning Center, created an outdoor art gallery. It consists of artwork by students who attend LLC.
The students of LLC worked on painting lattice at the beginning of the year, which is what the 2-D artwork hangs on. Dan Holden, a teacher at Lieberman Learning Center, dug the holes in the mulch so the lattice can stand sturdily in the ground.
The Lieberman Learning Center students designed and colored Mardi Gras masks to show on the car representing the school for homecoming, which after the parade were hung up outside in the gallery. Students also colorfully painted stones with oil paints to symbolize unity.
Some teachers also created masks and decorated stones for the gallery.
The students used their artistic capability and creativity to make beautiful artwork to be displayed in the outdoor art gallery. Lillyan Scott, the P.M. mathematics teacher at LLC, says she thinks that the gallery is beautiful, the children have done a good job, and she’s anxious to see it completed.
Students in Callahan’s art class are currently working on exaggerated flower pastels; drawing a portion of a flower then using chalk pastels to decorate. These will be laminated and hung outside in the art gallery replacing the masks.
This is the first year Lieberman Learning Center has produced an outdoor art gallery. Callahan says she had a vision to do something with the outside of the school to make it pretty. She says she plans to continue publishing artwork outside in the gallery as long as LLC is in the McNair building.
