UCHS Jazz band continues to win awards
The UCHS Jazz Band, under the direction of Stanley Coleman, won Outstanding Musician Award for the Big Band and the Jazz Combo during the Feb. 5-6 UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance’s 2010 George Salisbury Jazz Festival. All five of the outstanding soloist awards available were given to UCHS students: Zachary Morrow, drums; Sam Katz, alto sax; Terrance Childs, trombone; Nathan King, French horn, and Jacob Bashkin, bass.
UCHS musicians Terrence Childs, trombone, and Chiles Russell Taylor, trumpet, were selected in December to participate in the 2010 E. Des Lee Jazz Band Concert on Jan. 12.

UCHS Jazz Band performs Duke Ellington at The Nu-Art Series
The Nu-Art Series will feature the UCHS Jazz Band, directed by Stan Coleman, playing the music of Duke Ellington at The Jazz Composers Series on Saturday, April 17. The concert runs from 3 to 6 p.m. and cost $10 per person for open seating at the auditorium located at 2936 Locust Street (63103).
