Educare is a program to improve the early learning experiences of children ages birth-5 years of age in order for more children to enter kindergarten prepared for school success. The primary objective of the University City Educare Program is to assure that all children arrive at school with the prerequisite experiences that allow them to take full advantage of the school experience. Educare focuses on improving the quality of early care and education provided by individuals or facilities who accept Department of Social Services child care subsidy payments. Educare services and activities are made possible by a grant from the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division to the School District of University City.

Educare services include:

• Individualized home visits, training, and technical assistance for family child
care providers who want to start, expand or improve their program;

• Provider activities, including events and group sessions which offer networking opportunities and the latest child care and child development information;

• Professional development opportunities consistent with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Early Learning Standards;

• Subsidy Orientation Training for facilities who participate in the State child care subsidy program;

• Early Childhood Lending Library for use by University City child care providers, teachers and families;

• Linking child care providers and families to school and community resources; and

• Increasing consumer awareness of the important role quality child care has in the healthy development of children.

Educare services and activities are available without charge to community residents and child care facilities in the School District of University City.
