Construction & Renovations
Construction crews remain hard at work throughout the District to bring exciting changes to nearly every building during this school year, thanks to the passage of the $53.6M Prop U bond issue in April 2009. All construction and renovation projects will be completed by the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year, including a new building for Barbara C. Jordan Elementary and a new building for Pershing Elementary.
University City High School
In-progress work:
- 5 second-floor classroom renovations. (October)
- New exterior doors and entry doors for attendance and main office. (November)
- New passenger elevator to all four floors. (October)
- New trophy case in Black & Gold Hallway (November)
- Enhanced main lobby ceilings with patching and lighting (September)
- New chair lift on fourth floor (November)
Work completed by beginning of 2010-2011 school year:
- Classroom renovations - 6 on first floor, 5 on second floor.
- Redesigned front entry area where visitors and students enter via main office or attendance office.
- Repainted administrative and counseling areas.
- Renovated restrooms on first, second and third floor.
- Enhancements to Black & Gold Hallway.
- ADA accessible restrooms in cafeteria and gym
- Third-floor science wing and language arts rooms.
Brittany Woods Middle School
Students and visitors will be greeted on the first day of school with a new look to the front of the school, with additional work to be completed on the library and media center in front and the new sixth grade center in back.
Work completed for beginning of school year:
- Circle drive renovations, including canopy walkway
- Steps and handrail to outdoor classroom
- Renovated administrative area for main office, principal's office and assistant principals' space
- Old library converted to classrooms
- Classroom renovations (total of 42 classrooms)
- Enhancements to nurse's suite and choir room
In-progress work:
- Library and media center (mid-September)
- Two-story classroom addition for sixth grade (June 2011)
