Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! All students will learn to communicate, work both independently and with others, and manage change.
We hope you find this site informative and that you bookmark it for future use. We have included a variety of building level information. University City High School prides itself on being a progressive, student-focused school. We are constantly striving for improvement in all areas. We are committed to creating an environment in which students can excel and achieve their greatest potential.
Beginning my second year at U City, I look forward to working with and preparing our students for all post secondary options. My educational and professional background:
I went to Cornell College, earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Physical Education, and minored in Speech Communication. I came back to the area after college and substitute taught and worked as a para-professional in Davenport, while also coaching basketball and sophomore baseball at Central High School. I received my first teaching position at Bettendorf Middle School in 1990, teaching Speech Communication and Career Education as well as coaching a variety of sports at BMS and Bettendorf High School. I earned my Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University in Educational Administration and was named Associate Principal at BMS after five years of teaching. I served as AP for five years until returning to Davenport as Principal at Wood Intermediate School in 2000. From Wood, I returned to Central High School and served as building principal for five years. I completed my Specialist Degree at Western in 2004, also in Educational Administration.
The School District of University City continues our focus on utilizing the Professional Learning Community (PLC) model to identify essential learning objectives in each curricular area. As students are assessed on the material, teachers create instructional responses to address the individual needs of each student. This “instructional cycle” process is the focus of our professional development and allows us to meet the needs of every student.
For those that are not familiar with the Professional Learning Community model, it is based around asking four critical questions to guide their work:
•What is it we want students to know?
•How will we know that they learned it?
•How will we respond if they do not know it?
•What will we do if they do know it?

Working together, we will provide a rewarding experience for your student at University City High School that will have all students prepared for post-secondary opportunities. Please do not hesitate to contact me at 314-290-4102 with questions or concerns.
Have a great school year!
